In south-western Sicily, where the color of the earth recalls the shades of red typical of the soil golden by the sun on the Mediterranean, this type of soil is found, rich in sand and skeleton (stones). Of a very loose composition and full of ferrous micro elements, in the Belìce Valley it is characterized by a dry microclimate perfect for the breeding of red grape varieties.
It is the chosen terrain of Perricone, which has its origins in this area: another name of the cultivar, in fact, is Pignatello, precisely in relation to the "pignate", a Sicilian term which indicates the pots made with the same red earth on which the varietal gives its maximum expressions.
